Synopsis[edit]

The program continues coverage of stories followed by Fox News programming during the previous hours. The show often picks up a faster pace compared to the network’s other programs, giving the program a greater focus on breaking news with live correspondents. Reporting includes correspondents on the ground, in the studio, in addition to expert or expert analysis.

Shepard Smith reports[ edit ]

The program restart included the conclusion of Studio B’s weekend edition, hosted by Trace Gallagher, which began in February 2006. Studio B replaced the 3-4pm. Fox News Live’s ET hour (also hosted by Smith) in 2002 and Fox News Live’s weekend hour in 2005. The weekend editions were discontinued in May 2007, when the 15th time slot was supplemented by repeats of War Stories with Oliver North or other recorded programs. Trace Gallagher hosted Studio B as a backup anchor when Smith was absent.

Also in 2007, Smith announced that the program would soon undergo a major overhaul that could include name and format changes. This is partly because FNC’s physical Studio B is no longer available for use by the network. On December 14, 2008, Studio B relocated to Studio 12H, the set used by the Fox Report, as it switched to the high-definition Election Night set used by Fox.

On January 9, 2009, Studio B relocated to a new set at Studio 12H. Despite the actual studio name, Shepard Smith stated that this studio will be the new Studio B “because that’s the name of the program”. While Studio B switched to the aforementioned HD set, it continued to broadcast in 4:3 with the Fox News HD grand piano at the side until the show began airing in full 16:9 on March 23, 2009.

During the week of September 26 – October 2, 2011, Fox Report moved into its former studios, Studio E, used from September 2007 to December 2008, at the same time Studio B moved into the editorial office and Shepard Smith announced on September 28. September 2011 aired the Fox Report and Studio B moved to a new set on October 10, 2011. On that date, Studio B and the Fox Report introduced a new look and graphics with the new bottom third graphics for the show as seen on other Fox News Channel shows, The Five and Happening Now. Shepard Smith presented the show from a modified Studio 12H with more monitors and retaining “The Cube”, but the overhead platform and associated staircase that had been part of the set since 2008 were removed.

On October 7, 2013, Studio B relaunched as Shepard Smith Reporting with new graphics and a new state of the art studio called “The Fox News Deck” in Studio D.

Bill Hemmer reports[edit]

The program was temporarily renamed Fox News Reporting on October 14, 2019, following Shepard Smith’s departure from Fox News.

On January 20, 2020, Bill Hemmer, who was previously the co-host of America’s Newsroom, took over as the new host of that show, which accordingly changed its current title to Bill Hemmer Reports. The program ended on January 15, 2021 after Fox News announced a new program lineup. The story with Martha MacCallum took over the slot.

America reports[ edit ]

When Hemmer returned to a revamped American newsroom, John Roberts, Fox News’ chief White House correspondent, and Sandra Smith, the American newsroom anchor, became the hosts of a new two-hour newscast entitled America Reports, starring John Roberts and Sandra Smith.

controversy[edit]

On September 28, 2012, Studio B accidentally broadcast the suicide (due to a gunshot to the head) of 33-year-old Jodon F. Romero while ambushing a vehicle in Phoenix, leading to a 80-mile (130 km) police pursuit that was nearby of Salome, Arizona ended. Shepard Smith begged his technical staff to shut down Fox-owned KSAZ-TV’s helicopter feed after the suicide aired during live coverage.[3][4][5] After an abrupt commercial break, Smith apologized on-air for a broadcast delay error caused by the channel’s main control operators. In a statement, Fox News Channel executive vice president of news Michael Clemente acknowledged the error in broadcasting the suspect’s suicide: “We have taken every precaution to avoid such a live incident by comparing the helicopter images with a set a delay of five seconds. Unfortunately, this glitch was the result of serious human error, and we apologize for what viewers ended up seeing on screen.”[8] As a result of this incident, Romero’s wife is suing Fox News for an unspecified amount of damages. She claimed her children saw the video of Romero’s suicide and were traumatized as a result.[9] In February 2014, the lawsuit was dismissed by Judge John Rea, who ruled that the coverage was protected by the First Amendment and plaintiffs were unable to “satisfy the essential elements of the allegation of intentional infliction of emotional distress.”[ 10] In August 2015, the verdict was upheld in an Arizona Court of Appeals.[11]

Location [edit]

Shepard Smith Reporting was broadcast from Studio D (The Fox News Deck) at 1211 Avenue of the Americas (also known as the News Corp. Building) in New York City. Bill Hemmer Reports is also broadcast by Fox News Deck Studios.
